Budhaditya Chattopadhyay

is an audio practitioner based in India, moving within the area of sound recording/design/engineering and New Media. An archivist of recorded sound, he works with soundscapes and compositions based on manipulation of field recording, although his work with sound touches upon various media forms including ambient/experimental music, sound environments and atmospheres, mixed-media installations, audio essays and narratives, having grounded in the New Media aesthetics. He is also involved with restoration, digital archiving and preservation of sound by high-definition transfer, critical noise reduction, sound quality engineering and re-mastering; thus he maintains his associations with older media and formulates its re-interpretative value within New Media environment. His experiments with sound suggest creative possibilities of found sounds, having an ear for the acoustic environment and deep listening; compositions are based on cognitive selection of recorded sound and its treatment by means of audio engineering and digital media tools.
